Job Description:

Senior Computer Systems Specialist - Network Engineer

Location:Reston, VA

Provide temporary professional mission support services with federal oversight in project management, network engineering, help desk/remedy assistance, technical Subject Matter Expertise (SME), procurement and budget assistance, logistics management and facility (warehouse) support. These services will support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations

(HSI), Technical Operations Unit (TOU). TOU is responsible for conducting or supporting investigations involving the use of electronic video evidence equipment and software in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. The TOU will be responsible for the management of Spectrum Relocation Funding (SRF) allocated by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to purchase, configure, certify, test, and deploy several thousand pieces of equipment to support covert video technical operations in the field.

Performance Outcome: Provide architectural planning, and support for a nationwide covert video evidence network to include hardware, software and implementation. Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize bandwidth utilization and security of the network. Successfully diagnose and resolve technical and hardware issues, including assistance to technical support. Identify and keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets, this includes device integration and application integration. Communicate, professionally and technically with technical specialist, project manager, and end user clients.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education: B.A. or B.S. in relevant field, i.e. network management or video management or equivalent work experience is required.

Minimum General Experience: 10 years’ experience network management and/or video evidence management.

Desirable Specialized Experience: The Government desires individuals with experience and who possess a thorough understanding of the basics behind the Internet and its workings (Domain Name System [DNS], Security, Internet Protocol [IP] Routing, Hypertext Transfer Protocol [HTTP], Virtual Private Network [VPN], Vulnerability Monitoring, etc.), Local Area Networking (LAN), IP video systems and transport and storage solutions, as well as the following:

  • Windows Server 2008
  • Active Directory
  • VMware, Vsphere 5.0
  • Virtualization
  • SAN setup, configuration
  • Dell Equal Logic, Netapp
  • Cisco routers, switches, operation and configuration
  • ASA configuration
  • EMC, VNX, Avamar
  • Certifications in Cisco and Microsoft applications

The Contractor shall perform the following tasks with federal oversight:

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the basics behind the Internet and its workings (Domain Name System [DNS], Security, Internet Protocol [IP] Routing, Hypertext Transfer Protocol [HTTP], Virtual Private Network [VPN], Vulnerability Monitoring, etc.)
  • Configure and set up firewalls, VPN concentrators, and security appliances for access to vital business applications
  • Specialize in IP video systems and transport and storage solutions
  • Design, sets up, and configure complex switching environments
  • Add programs, software, and configure hardware devices
  • Design, sets up, and configure complex wireless networking that support open or secured access and support voice and video applications
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Local Area Networking (LAN)
  • Assist in the design of multi-server environments including IP address schemes, DNS, Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS), Ether-Channel (Bonding), etc.
  • Configure and installs client and server network software for upgrading and maintaining network and telecommunication systems
  • Maintain multi-site network operations and software applications, operating systems, and regular maintenance with both private and public facilities
  • Manage assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives
  • Install and maintain data retrieval systems as emergency backup
  • Respond to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, and site personnel to provide technical assistance and support
  • Train field representatives on new hardware and software
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions of network hardware and software applications, telephones, and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services
