| Welcome to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Web site. DPSCS works to keep Maryland communities safe and provides services to the victims of crime. The Department also provides criminal justice and law enforcement agencies with timely access to accurate information about defendants and offenders.
While DPSCS ensures the security, safety and well being of defendants and offenders under its supervision, the Department also is dedicated to lowering recidivism rates. DPSCS’s new philosophy of corrections and public safety is called RESTART – Reentry Enforcement Services Targeting Addictions Rehabilitation and Treatment. RESTART is designed to reduce crime by reducing the number of repeat offenders who return to the State’s prison system.
