Chevron Pipe Line Company (CPL) is accepting online applications for the position of Construction Manager (CM) through April 9, 2010. CPL is headquartered in Bellaire, Texas, just outside of Houston and deals in the transport of crude oil, refined petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas and chemicals within the United States. This position may be located in Bakersfield, CA, Covington, LA, or Bellaire, TX and will require travel to field locations approximately 75% to 80% of the time.
The Construction Manager is the project’s dedicated Company Representative for construction related issues. The CM must function as an integral part of the project team and actions must be consistent with the project objectives and must support the Project Execution Plan. This position will support projects across Chevron including other Chevron Operating Companies. Primary locations for most of the on-shore projects will be located in California, Texas, and Louisiana, including the Gulf Coast along with the Northwest United States. There is potential for international travel along with off-shore shallow and/or deep water work to support the Project Management Team. Travel will be extensive with time out of the office varying based on project loading and requirement. This position is part of the Project Management Team and will report to the Manager of Construction in Bellaire, TX.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
* Assists in the planning and definition of construction activities
* Assists the Project Manager with development of a field construction support resource plan
* Participates in bid walks which includes reviewing bids to ensure the Contractor’s plans and procedures follow Company’s policies and requirements.
* Ensures all safety measures are followed (e.g. Job Site Safety Plans, Safe Work Practices etc.), including scheduling and leading periodic safety meetings with contractors and construction teams
* Ensures construction activities conform to the specifications and drawings and utilize project change management as necessary
* Coordinates and monitors all construction activities
Required Qualifications:
* High School diploma or equivalent
* Minimum of 8 years experience managing pipeline construction and maintenance activities
* Strong contractor and construction safety leadership experience in pipeline and facility construction
* Proven ability to foster a strong safety culture and assure that all safety measures are followed during construction
* Onshore pipeline construction management experience
* Demostrated ability to ensure construction activities conform to the project and Chevron specifications, drawings and plans
* Demonstrated leadership in managing people and processes and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
* Must be able to demonstrate hands-on approach to all aspects of project work
* Specific knowledge of pipeline/piping construction, repair, and maintenance
* Skilled in regulatory codes associated with pipeline/piping construction and general knowledge of pipeline/piping operations
* Candidate must be willing and able to travel approximately 75% to 80% of the time
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelors Degree in Construction Management
* Offshore Pipeline construction management experience
* 10 years experience managing pipeline construction and maintenance activities

Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.
International Considerations:
Expatriate assignments may be considered.
