Job Description:

1.   SUMMARY

 
The Assembly Machine Setup Operator will be responsible for performing initial and changeover setups on assembly machines as well as operating those machines to maximize production efficiency and output while minimizing scrap and downtime. This position will also be responsible for performing routine and minor maintenance on assigned assembly machines. The Assembly Machine Setup Operator is a member of the Production Department.

2.    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 
·         Perform initial and product changeover setups on assembly machines in assigned area as required
·         Adjust sensors and other machine components to ensure optimal performance of assembly machines
·         Maintain spare part and tooling inventory for assembly machines in assigned area
·         Work directly with the Maintenance Department to ensure 100% operational readiness of assembly machines in assigned area
·         Observe operation to detect malfunctions of assembly machines in assigned area
·         Assist the Maintenance Department in troubleshooting and repairing assembly machines in assigned area
·         Create work orders for maintenance and repair of breakdowns and/or issues
·         Train new machine operators in assigned area on the operation of assembly machines
·         Support Machine Operators in the operation of assembly machines as needed to ensure production goals and deadlines are met, to minimize the amount of scrap produced and to minimize the downtime of assembly machines
·         Operate assembly machines in assigned area as needed to ensure production goals and deadlines are met, to minimize the amount of scrap produced and to minimize the downtime of assembly machines
·         Lift raw materials, final products, and items packed for shipment, manually (up to 60 lbs.), or using hoist.
·         Take proper care of all equipment and facilities
·         Complete tasks safely and efficiently with the highest level of quality in mind
·         Ensure that reporting and tracking of productivity, machine downtime, scrap and other metrics is complete, accurate and submitted to management timely
·         Keep work areas clean and organized
·         Help with yearly and quarterly inventory as needed
·         Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task
·         Work in a fast paced environment with fast changing priorities
·         Follow all company rules and policies
·         Follow all safety rules and quality standards; Report safety hazards and incidents to management immediately
·         Maintain a positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes cooperation with coworkers, customers, collaborators, vendors and management
·         Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency
·         Uphold all ISO and OSHA standards and maintain documentation applicable to the responsibilities above

Job Requirements:

1.     KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

 
·         High school diploma, GED or equivalent is required AND 1-2 years’ experience as a machine setup operator
·         Mechanical aptitude and willingness to work with your hands
·         Comfortable with simple machine programming
·         Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
·         Ability to distinguish material types including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper and brass
·         Ability to prioritize and multitask in an effective and efficient way
·         Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, schematics, drawings and bill of materials
·         Basic understanding of the metric system
·         Ability to produce quality products consistently
·         Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
·         Ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision while meeting all product quality requirements
·         Willingness to learn and work to the best of his/her abilities
·         Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
·         Ability to measure components using tape measures, calipers and angle gauges (ability to convert fractions to decimals and conversely decimals to fractions)
·         Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds regularly and consistently
·         Must be able to stand and walk for the duration of the work day (typically 8.5 hours)
·         Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl as required to complete setup and perform maintenance on assembly machines
·         Moderate computer skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
·         Candidate has to be a strong team player
·         Flexibility, punctuality, consistent attendance and self-direction for the success of the operations
·         Willingness to work 40+ hours a week, flexibility to change shifts as required to provide proper support to production efforts; some weekend work may be required
