Simply put, we maintain the outdoor classroom. This is accomplished by understanding and complying with Federal and State laws and DoD regulations that pertain to each installation’s environmental program and professionally managing natural resources to ensure sound sustainable stewardship of the public lands entrusted to the Army and other Federal agencies. Natural resource managers are mission enablers and ensure management decisions support the training and deployment of U.S. Armed Forces.
The Business Development Director will report to the President of Veterans Environmental Group. The primary role of this person is to provide full business life cycle support with special emphasis on building a pipeline of addressable, qualified opportunities in this market, including, but not limited to, identifying, qualifying, and pursuing new business opportunities.
The successful candidate will maintain in-depth knowledge of the business environment in which VEG operates and work closely with division account and portfolio leaders to identify and evaluate opportunities to convert into sales. They will manage both internal and external client relationships, while establishing contacts, understanding critical issues, developing solutions, and delivering technical and marketing presentations describing those solutions.
This BD Director will position VEG to pursue and capture select opportunities, understanding the voice of the customer and integrating it into all subsequent BD activities. They will develop strategic business direction and business plans working with Division & Portfolio leaders. They will be focused on customer engagement, solution development and selling. In addition, they will look for opportunities to drive VEG’s core capabilities which supports current and future DoD training by sustaining and maintaining access to realistic training areas by balancing physical conditions, usage, and maintenance. The program provides a management and decision-making process that integrates DoD training and other mission requirements for sustainable land use with sound natural resources management.
The BD Director will maintain strong knowledge of business environment – including trends in demand, technology, competition, influencers, etc.; they will maintain technical competence and an understanding of organization’s capabilities by participating in technical meetings and proposal reviews. They will have a solid understanding of financial/budgeting and procurement processes for government agencies.
The BD Director will help develop new concepts and solutions for inclusion in strategic planning activities. They will attend conferences, workshops, industry days, trade shows and association events as a mechanism to stay abreast of developments in the industry and direct client engagement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and captures business opportunities for the U.S. Military and federal agencies in collaboration with key executives of VEG, LLC.
Create & maintain a network of customer "contacts" with focus on the U.S. Army, USMC, USAF, U.S. Army Reserves, and National Guard and provide briefings for Professional Association events, Trade Shows, Overseas visits, and other events as required.
Contribute to marketing analysis and assessments using standard company tools and techniques available.
Develop, schedule and coordinate project assessments and reporting.
Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Engineering/Science related field or equivalent experience.
Preferred: MBA or Master's degree.
At least 4 years of experience in business developing government business with the U.S. Army or other U.S. military organizations within the environmental arena.
Minimum of 10 years of experience dealing with the U.S. Military (Army and/or National Guard Preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
Must have knowledge of DoD Programs and requirements development, DoD 5000 Acquisition Process, acquisition & life cycle sustainment process, with particular matching the customer's requirements to the best product (Phase 1 of the B.D. Capture Process) & sustainment of the product & customer satisfaction during & after the acquisition.
Strategic thinking, problem-solving and solution development.
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management.
Excellent leadership and management skills.
Must have knowledge of the U.S. Army's environmental programs.

Technical Systems Proficiency:
Internal and commercial systems proficiency required for the position. Ex: Microsoft Office Suite, Project Management Systems.
Decision Making, Complexity:
This position has direct responsibility for the development and implementation of corporate business strategy, strategic partnerships, and transactions as well as other company projects.
Developed B.D. approaches and strategies will be briefed to the VEG Company President (strategy process owner) for validation and approval.
Requires the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form. Ability to think analytically and should be a problem solver. Ability to gather and interpret relevant data and information.
Ability to analyze and document complex business processes.
Fundamental knowledge of FAR to ensure contractual and regulatory requirements.
Responsibility to represent the company for market multi-million-dollar programs to high-level U.S. military officials and government decision-makers. Provides business development support for the company. Executes with the quality, timeliness, and accuracy of work efforts prior to delivery to the customer. Take timely and appropriate actions to address any shortfalls associated to gathering requirements for the client.
Provide input to the Opportunities List by leveraging all opportunities from the field and other sources. Conducts a weekly meeting with business development and other potential directorates, as necessary.
Develops and assists Technical writers with detailed requirements to accomplish the design, development, and delivery for each project SOW or PWS.
Assigns resources to work plans based on technical capabilities and knowledge/background requirements.
Guides project teams in making sound, innovative technical decisions.
Assists with the development of positive business relationships with clients to ensure outstanding customer satisfaction levels. Make customer-focused decisions, work in customer's best interest.
Prepares all aspects of B.D. data mining, evaluation of RFPs, ROM development, and project negotiation activities.
Provides leadership and direction for the design, development, and sales of products and services most desired by the current and future customer base.
Provides support and direction to the business development division staff in all sales, product development, marketing, and proposal development responsibilities.
Assists with directing sales forecasting activities and sets performance goals accordingly.
Assists with the development, production, and distribution of promotional and collateral materials to support sales and marketing initiatives.
Prepares periodic status reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion.
Establishes and maintains a consistent company image throughout product lines, customer bases, promotional materials, and events.
Reviews analysis of marketing surveys on current and new product concepts in order to recommend future product development.
Manages all marketing service functions including the development and distribution of marketing materials and the use of electronic media and emerging technologies for effective product information dissemination.
Performs other business development and product marketing duties as directed by the Director of B.D. and the President.
Beneficial Skills and Experience:
Master's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related discipline.
Previous military experience and knowledge of government and DOD contracting policies, practices, and procedures desired.
Must have experience and knowledge with the U.S. Army's Sustainable Range Program.
Working knowledge of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
Understanding of programs for environmental compliance and sustainability as required by Federal, State, and local laws and military requirements governing outdoor air quality, drinking water, green procurement, stormwater, solid waste, toxic and hazardous wastes, above and underground storage tanks, pollution prevention, environmental restoration, operational ranges, wastewater, environmental management systems.
