Quality Assurance Specialist (Functional Tester)

Database and Software Development Ingenuity is at the heart of this company's approach to helping clients collect, store, manage, visualize and utilize data. Subject Matter Experts within the team are equally adept at refining existing software and developing original programs supporting key functional operations. We are seeking a new member to join this team to help us provide solutions for the Department of Defense. The products delivered by this team actively help to ensure the safety of Service Members and their families around the world.

This is a great position for someone with a strong understanding of the software testing environment who is interested in gaining experience in functional testing.

On a day to day basis you will perform duties associated with Test planning, Hardware/Software Testing, Documentation and assessment and other duties as they relate to Quality Assurance and software testing to include:


  • Serve as a project application tester for projects to design and implement innovative solutions
  • Support the testing needs of multiple complex software applications, databases, web services, data files, hardware components, system integration and sync processing
  • Test projects for maintenance, patches, and/or releases
  • Design test scenarios and test cases that will demonstrate conformance to all functional requirements as defined in technical specs
  • Manually test applications
  • Test applications, develop manual/automation scripts for functional and synchronization process validation
  • Ensure issues/defects are identified, tracked, reported, and resolved in a timely manner during a testing cycle
  • Report findings and provide metric inputs



Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field. May substitute equivalent combination of education and experience

This position requires a current Secret clearance.

1+ years in software development to include:


  • Experience with PL/SQL, C++, Java, JavaScript, Java Framework (i.e. Strut 2 and Spring), Apache Tomcat, Linux (Red Hat), GenEdit
  • Use of version control systems (i.e. JIRA, BugZilla, or TestTrack Pro)
  • Ability to develop application testing knowledge on the Windows platform, especially Client/Server .Net and Java applications, data synchronization, Global Platform and Biometrics, and/or XML/SOAP applications
  • Basic understanding on how to create, edit, update SQL statements
  • Fundamental knowledge in scripting languages to automate testing tasks leading to the ability to learn to use automated testing tools.
  • Understand how to create/update QA test plans and test cases based on requirements
  • Knowledge of the database and network architecture used by the applications and how it may or may not impact the testing efforts for the software releases
  • Understanding of application business rules, configuration management and deployment processes
  • Experience supporting Infrastructure, and backend components required to support the application
  • Previous experience mapping test cases to requirements via the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM)
  • Examples and history of designing test cases that conform to functional requirements in technical specs
  • Understanding of both manual and automated testing methodologies, processes and testing metrics
  • Understanding of different software development life cycles (i.e. waterfall, iterative, agile, etc.)
  • Ability to obtain a Security + certification
