Job Description
Summary
The Field Systems Engineer will provide on-site systems engineering, installation, technical verification and test support for Comtech EF Data advanced satellite IP based solutions. The systems engineering team are responsible for supporting all Comtech EF Data advanced satellite IP hardware and software products. The systems engineering staff will be expected to be the escalation point for support engineers for complex customer network issues and to be available on call. The position will require up to 50% travel (international and US domestic).
Responsibilities
- Provide field systems engineering and installation support for all satellite IP hardware and software.
- Expert-level systems engineering and technical verification and test support.
- Third-party Systems integration and Product Enhancement.
- Travel to customer facilities to perform on site hub installation, hub and network audits, and training.
- Support customer focused communications and interventions providing expert knowledge on verification and test support (bug fixes, customer debugging).
- Support ESC engineers in meetings with customers discussing bugs and/or customer issues/problems. The meetings may be focused on educating the customer about the product and/or the software.
- Act as the escalation point for hardware and software issues, and provide high level technical support, assistance and guidance to the ESC engineering teams.
- Travel to customer facilities to perform debugging support for escalated trouble tickets (in close liaison with ESC).
- Must be able to develop a rapport and build a productive working relationship with customers.
- Provide training for the PSO engineering teams on new hardware and/or software and on software upgrades and patch installation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer/IT Engineering; with three or more years related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP, QOS and general Networking/IP Routing including but not limited to Multicast routing, Inter-VLAN routing, switch and router configuration.
- Ability to use tools like TCPDUMP or Wireshark packets sniffers and analyzers
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix, MYSQL or other similar databases.
- Understanding of RF and components of satellite communication.
- CCNA and Linux certifications are highly desired.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
