Description

Major Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Understand an follow operational guidelines set forth by OSHA, EPA, DOT, and Sprague Operating Resources, LLC
  • Adheres to and enforces all company and regulatory safety standards
  • Ensures preventive maintenance and repairs meet all quality and safety standards
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of technical assigned staff
  • Directs workers in electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Generate computerized reports and repair orders and track progress through completion; ensure repair orders and timesheets of employees in shop are complete and accurate
  • Perform skilled mechanic duties including troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing gasoline and diesel powered equipment
  • Inspect, diagnose, repair and adjust a variety of systems on light and heavy equipment vehicles including fuel injection systems, antilock brake systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, air conditioning systems, fuel management systems, transmissions, steering and suspension components, clutches, engine sensors, pumps and meters
  • Inspect motorized and mechanical equipment; diagnose problems and determine extent of necessary repairs; perform routine preventive maintenance
  • Implements and monitors preventative maintenance program to assure cost effective and scheduled maintenance program meets or exceeds manufacturers specifications
  • Prepares and documents all annual inspections to include DOTs and ensure proper filing of documents
  • Maintains a complete inventory system through recording of all expenditures of each vehicle, maintenance equipment, repair parts, supplies, etc.
  • Implements and maintains a mechanic training to provide needed technical skills for mechanics in repair of vehicles and equipment
  • Supervises all garage employees; hires, trains, coaches, evaluates and disciplines employees as necessary
  • Checks all repair work performed in shop for completeness. This includes physical inspections and road tests before vehicle is turned back to user departments
  • Assist in purchasing on new/used equipment

*All other duties as assigned

Education / Experience / Skill Requirements:

  • High school diploma required; Automotive/Diesel Technical training preferred
  • 2 year or more performing skilled heavy equipment repair and supervisory work
  • Must have Class A or B CDL license; ability to receive Class 7 Inspection within 90 days of hire
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, FMCSA regulations required
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled employees engaged in repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment
  • Basic understanding of computer operations and general office equipment
  • Analyze date and prepare reports with recommendations on a wide variety of a diverse fleet
  • Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, evenings and on-call
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry and push/pull 50lbs
  • Requires frequent bending, squatting, standing, climbing, kneeling and walking
  • May be required to work in small, hard to reach spaces
  • Must pass physical capabilities exam
