Graduate Assistant (Student Success)

The Graduate Assistant for Student Affairs works under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean for Academic Resources and Student Success to gain experience in student support and accessibility services and to support the functions of the office, including academic success workshops, academic coaching, outreach to students of concern, and assessment.

  • Assist with all projects and areas of responsibility including but not limited to: academic success workshops, academic coaching, outreach to students of concern, and assessment.
  • Develop content for academic resources and workshops on topics including time management, stress tolerance and resilience, task initiation, and procrastination
  • Support events through facilitation, managing registration, and coordinating materials 
  • Review current research and best practices related to academic resources and student success and educational accessibility
  • Assist with implementation of academic accommodations, including scheduling and proctoring exams 
  • Support assessment efforts and data analysis for the department; gather and update tracking data; analyze data and identify trends and patterns
  • Under the direction of the Associate Dean, provide individual or small group academic coaching
  • Support communication efforts for the department, including on social media platforms
  • Meet with the Associate Dean for Academic Resources and Student Success on a weekly basis
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Desire to utilize research, best practices, & assessment to create student-focused programs & events.


Education: Bachelor’s degree and enrollment in a Master’s degree program in Higher Education Administration, Education, or another related field. 

Experience: Successful candidates should demonstrate effective communication and counseling skills, the ability to present materials to groups in a workshop setting, and have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software and the Internet. Experience working with a diverse student population is desired.

Licenses/Certificates: Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to the College's automobile insurance carrier.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in an educational environment. Experience in managing a student program and working with students. Consideration will be prioritized for CGU School of Education Masters and PhD students.


Hours: Scheduled hours are 6 per week beginning July 1, Monday-Friday, regular office hours are 8:00 a.m., to 5:00 p.m.; hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department.

Classification and Status: This is a part-time temporary (July 2021-May 2022), non-benefits eligible, non-exempt position.

Reporting: This position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Resources and Student Success.
