Designs, installs, configures and troubleshoots communication networks.
Evaluates projected network usage and develops hardware/software solutions.
Plans, designs and implements network management, systems to monitor, diagnose, control and measure performance of communication networks.
Provide diversified systems engineering support for all communications activities associated with the theater wide and local networks.
Specific tasks include, but are not limited, to the following:
Conducts and documents requirements analysis, engineer costs and system availability through the planning and integration of a wide variety of communication technologies.
Troubleshoots and resolves technical problems with both on-site and remote users interface as necessary with hardware/software vendors to resolve system configuration problems
Provides technical support in the areas of LAN and WAN management analysis, network configuration management, and problem analysis to include: satellite communications, commercial leased circuits, distributed processing, data compression, encryption, unified communication protocols, fiber optics, video teleconferencing (VTC), various data transport systems, and server and storage technologies.
Assists in resolving non-routine network, switch, and router problems
Maintains documentation relevant to network administration
Supports testing and integration efforts, prior to any implementation or upgrade.
Assists in exercise communication and network planning.
Performs strategic and tactical communications engineering, network analysis, asset management and planning.
Provides technical briefings, could lead other engineers in engineering work groups, and participates in configuration control boards, exercise planning and requirements meetings.
Desired Skills/Other Considerations
Experience in telecommunications and/or network engineering in a large distributed environment with emphasis on military (US/NATO) operations.
Knowledge of life-cycle management of TCP/IP and LAN/WAN systems, test and evaluation, data performance and collection, quality assurance and metrics, design engineering, modeling and simulation analysis, facility infrastructure engineering (cabling, power, networking and patching facilities) and Microsoft Office applications.
Desired, but not required skills are Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE), or Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional (CCNA/CCNP), network control center operations.
Must Have Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) certificate
A bachelor's degree plus 3 years of recent specialized experience, OR, an associate's degree plus 7 years of recent specialized experience, OR, a major certification plus 7 years of recent specialized experience, OR, 11 years of recent specialized experience.
