Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: The Engineering Manager is responsible for directing the maintenance and repairs of the stadium including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, control systems, vertical transportation, fire alarm / fire sprinkler systems and stadium seating.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides direction, management and oversight of stadium maintenance and repairs by:

  • Provides direction to shop supervisors in the preventative maintenance and repairs to the stadium including but not limited to HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, vertical transportation, fire alarm/ fire sprinkler systems, seats, doors/locks and other facility systems and equipment.
  • Managing and operating building automation system (BAS), ensuring all staff is properly trained to operate effectively and all new equipment is added to maintain an integrated system.
  • Making recommendations for near term and long-term capital repair and replacement based on existing condition of the facility.
  • Oversee Elevator/Escalator and Fire Alarm System contractors.
  • Reviewing plans and providing recommendations in new construction and/or equipment replacement in conjunction with the Director of Facilities, Construction and Planning and verifying construction work meets stadium standards.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Operations and Engineering and Project Manager to schedule staff and coordinate all work, projects, and event needs of engineering. 
  • Assisting television broadcast crews for televised events at the facility.  
  • Managing through shop Supervisors all engineering service contracts to ensure all service contract work is completed as required, all contractual requirements and obligations as well as contract terms are met and assisting in and providing recommendations in negotiations of terms and execution of facility service contracts. 
  • Working closely with the Director of Operations and Engineering in the preparation of competitive bidding and RFP’s for stadium projects and of service agreements. Prepare specifications/requirements for expiring and/or new agreements 60 days prior to the expiration or required date for RFP preparation.
  • Continuously seeking improvements in work efficiency which can take place.
  • Recommend improvements in the building’s energy management program for energy usage including electrical, water, and natural gas consumption throughout all areas of the facility and actively seeking new methods for improvement in energy management programs which result in increased efficiencies related to utility use and cost. 
  • Ensure all hard copy and drawings and CADs are received for all building modifications and updated as needed with Project Manager.
  • Communicating regularly with department management and staff to provide constant updates of any issues or concerns which may be present with systems and provide priority and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Ensuring all events and projects comply with applicable facility regulatory and code compliance with an emphasis on MS4 and fire code.
  • Coordinating overall Engineering activities to ensure facility readiness and smooth operation of events.
  • Providing and ensuring clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to and between all departments.
  • Knowing and ensuring compliance with all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, risk management, safety precautions, rules/regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Investigating, analyzing, and resolving occupant challenges and complaints.
  • Planning and directing outside vendor/contractor work to assure compliance with contracts and safety requirements.
  • Oversee all site concrete and asphalt preventative maintenance and repairs. 
  • Managing site snow removal. 

Manages engineering team by:

  • Carrying out supervisory responsibilities for Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Facilities Tech, and General Maintenance staff in accordance with SMC policies and applicable laws.
  • Ensuring sufficient coverage during day-to-day activities as well as for the building’s event schedule in conjunction with Director of Operations and Engineering.
  • Developing and implementing on-going staff training to ensure staff are capable to represent the Facility Department as needed for events.
  • Scheduling work within building schedule and to meet organizational priorities
  • Conducting periodic staff meetings.
  • Maintaining appropriate staffing levels by interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work and appraising performance in conjunction with SMC Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Leading by example and ensuring department operations and activities are focused on maximizing customer satisfaction, revenues, determining root cause of equipment or system malfunctions, and minimizing operational expenses over the stadium’s life cycle. 

Completes operational, financial, and administrative tasks for engineering by:

  • Assisting the Director of Operations and Engineering with the development and execution of annual engineering operating budget and the long-term capital repair and replacement budgets with a focus on extending the life cycle of the stadium and its equipment.
  • Reviewing and approving all purchases within purchasing procedures.
  • Developing and maintaining policies and procedures related to the Engineering operations and provide recommended adjustments to the Director of Operations and Engineering for department improvements.
  • Provide recommendations to event staff within building capabilities to host potential events.
  • Utilizing computer based CMMS software (FMX) to review, document and track work activities, time and materials and ensuring work orders and other required documentation is completed in a timely fashion.
  • Review repair documentation to ensure sufficient details are provided for historical record.
  • Encouraging professional growth for all staff and working to identify training opportunities which take place on a yearly or on-going basis.
  • Overseeing projects as assigned.

Performs duties of Safety Manager by:

  • Facilitating building safety program to include monthly safety meeting.
  • Tracking and facilitating ongoing training for all building operations to including material handling equipment.
  • Developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety and Risk Management policies in compliance with all SMC and applicable laws, codes and regulations.

Education & Experience

Required

  • Completion of High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Experience shall include at least 5 years related experience; or combination of education and experience in engineering, construction, maintenance and/or operations
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a supervisor.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in facility maintenance

 

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four year accredited college or university. 
  • Experience in stadium and/or event facility.
  • Experience in trade work and or education related to stadium engineering concepts.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills to include records keeping, documentation.
  • Excellent organization and planning abilities.
  • Strong general knowledge of commercial facility and/or convention operations. 
  • Strong management skills with the ability to lead and provide oral and written direction.
  • Project management skills/experience.
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License if required to complete the essential duties of the job or ability to obtain within 60 days.
  • Experience with database input and management.
  • Willing to work extended and/or irregular hours including weekends and holidays as assigned.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary range for this Colorado position is between $100,000 and $105,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
