Dean, School of Professions

Buffalo State, State University of New York, seeks candidates for the position of Dean, School of Professions

The Dean is the academic lead of the School of the Professions (SOP) and reports directly to the Provost of the College. As chief advocate for the School, the SOP Dean promotes its goals, leads its development, and addresses its mission of transforming student lives through academic excellence and experiential learning. The Dean must be prepared to meet the challenges facing higher education today: shrinking enrollment, flexibility to respond to unforeseen challenges, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, strategies to promote retention, and an enthusiastic commitment to maintaining and recruiting a diverse and exceptional faculty and staff.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in one of the disciplines taught in the School of the Professions (business; computer information systems; criminal justice; creativity and change leadership; engineering technology; fashion and textile technology; health, nutrition, and dietetics; higher education administration; hospitality and tourism; social work; speech-language pathology); from an accredited institution.
  • Evidence of teaching, scholarly/creative accomplishment, and service sufficient to warrant consideration for tenure and appointment to full professor
  • Knowledge of the issues, trends, and challenges facing the disciplines within the School of The Professions
  • Sustained and proven effectiveness in college administrative leadership, academic planning, fiscal planning, allocation, and oversight, and managing change at the chair’s to dean’s level or equivalent. 
  • Experience in oversight of program accreditation and assessment
  • Record of success in working effectively and collegially with diverse faculty, staff, units, and departments and in college community as a whole and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated leadership of student recruitment and retention initiatives 
  • A leader with effective interpersonal, advocacy, and communication skills who values transparency and shared governance.
  • Proven ability to lead innovation and/or creative problem solving from developmental to implementation 
  • Evidence of success in increasing local to global engagement, developing and sustaining community partnerships that facilitate further opportunities for students and faculty
  • Experience in infrastructure development, strategic planning, and fundraising.
  • Demonstrated budget planning and implementation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of success in leading a diverse array of academic disciplines 
  • Evidence of success in increasing local to global engagement, developing and sustaining community partnerships that facilitate further opportunities for students and faculty
  • Proven leadership of faculty professional development 
  • Evidence of maintaining high levels of program quality, rigor, student success, and engagement
  • Experience with diverse faculty recruiting programs.
  • Currently at rank of Full Professor
  • Experience as a Principle Investigator
