Our Crane Operator/Terminal Operator is primarily responsible for operating vessel cranes during bulk discharges and, secondarily, to assist in the maintenance and repair of the conveyor system. Work hours/shifts will vary as circumstances dictate and overtime is frequently available but not guaranteed. Work is primarily outdoors in a maritime environment 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Some travel to other Sprague facilities will be required.

Your duties and responsibilities can include, but are not limited to any of the following:

• Operate bulk vessel cranes (12 hour shifts) for duration of discharge.
• On completion of discharge will be responsible for clean-up/wash down of entire conveyor system.
• Will be required to travel to other bulk terminals to operate bulk vessel cranes as needed.
• When not otherwise employed will be responsible for assisting with conveyor maintenance and repairs.
• Will also be trained in cement silo operations and responsible for operations if silos reactivated.
• Possible operation of large construction equipment once trained(loader, bulldozer, skid steer, forklift)
• Assist with mooring vessels
• Assist with liquid cargo operations
• Ability to work at heights in adherence with company policies
• Participate in oil spill response drills
• Welding skills helpful but not required
• Possible operation of Oxy/Acetylene torch once trained
• Available/Receptive to respond to afterhours maintenance issues
• Other duties as required

Education / Experience / Skill Requirements:

• Prior crane operation experience a plus but not required
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years experience as a general laborer
• Knowledge of basic math
• Mechanical aptitude
• Receptive to and available for training opportunities outside the workplace
• Good computer skills
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to obtain a TWIC
• Good verbal and written communication skills

Physical activity/strength requirements are demanding and may include:

• Standing up to 75% of the day
• Lifting up to 75 lbs. (i.e. steel parts, spouts)
• Pulling up to 75 lb. capacity (i.e. mooring lines)
• Extended climbing (i.e. tank ladders/stairs/ramps/conveyors)
• Ability to work in an outdoor, maritime environment in a variety of shifts
• Incumbent must possess the ability to work in a safe manner and maintain a constant state of alertness as the nature of work performed within our terminal operations create conditions where a momentary lack of concentration or alertness can lead to catastrophic results.
