The Senior Credit Analyst is responsible for in depth credit and financial statement analysis to establish customers' credit limits permitting the highest profitable sales levels. Regularly reviews credit limits and credit exposure to manage risk. If you like using your analytical skills to dig into data, this is the job for you!

  • Analyze new and existing customers’ credit worthiness utilizing financial statements, and supplementary information from third parties, and perform detailed evaluation of customers credit capacities to approve or reject accounts up to a specified limit. Initiate additional action to obtain further information if required. The individual must possess the knowledge and experience to perform an analysis of a customer’s Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Statement of Cash Flow as well as understand financial statement ratios.
  • Investigate and verify financial status and reputation of prospective customers applying for credit to establish or recommend credit limitations. Prepare documents to substantiate findings and recommend rejection or approval of applications.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships and communication with other departments and clients to enhance customer service.
  • Gather information, including rating agencies i.e. Moody's, Standard and Poor’s. Also monitor news and related periodicals for events or actions that may have material financial impact on Sprague customers.
  • Share other responsibilities with other Team members.
  • Provide useful input to improving and implementing new ideas/processes.
  • Provide support in obtaining trade credit from suppliers, including negotiating and managing letters of credits, bonds, and other collateral as determined.
  • Monitor and report on customers’ Mark to Market exposures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualified candidates for this role will have the following: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred or 3-4 years of relevant experience in commercial credit
  • Strong analytical skills including financial statement analysis
  • Ability to work independently and aggressively
  • Solid written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong computer skills and must be proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to interact well with customers, sales, management, and team members
  • Highly organized, self-starter who can logically approach solving problems
  • Ability to prioritize workload, perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of the energy industry a plus
  • Knowledge of letters of credits and bonds a plus
