The Natural Gas Cost Analyst is responsible for collecting, generating, and reporting a wide variety of data that support Natural Gas Scheduling and Supply, Natural Gas Billing, and Accounting. The individual in this position will have a firm understanding of Sprague’s wholesale and retail accounting systems, and how the two work together. Their primary responsibility will be to make sure the data in our systems is accurate so we can report monthly financials accurately to Accounting.

  • Manage the everyday balancing of our financial systems. Troubleshoot and correct issues so the system is balanced for accurate forecasting.
  • Report the cash forecast to our Risk team, including price forecasting for monthly inventory positions and intermonth Park and Loans/Storage entries.
  • Maintain correct pricing within our accounting systems to ensure accurate forecasts.
  • Troubleshoot/fix Retail and Wholesale flow models that are not uploading correctly into our accounting systems.
  • Independently test various new processes and system upgrades with IT.
  • Correctly report Natural Gas purchases from Utilities, pipelines, brokers, storage facilities, and third-party Suppliers. Troubleshoot and fix volume and price discrepancies.
  • Gather, download, and format customer usage data to assist schedulers with accurate customer forecasting and historical usage trends.
  • Collect, enter, and track Operational Flow Orders (OFO’s) and communicate these to the sales team to avoid penalties
  • Process customer liquidations within cost systems
  • Enter LDC forecast/backcast and UMR to Safari
  • Enter capacity demand/intrinsic to our accounting systems and ensure pipeline invoices and our capacity costs tie out to pipeline invoices. Troubleshoot/fix Capacity/Trackers so we report financials accurately.
  • Roll our accounting systems from month to month and year to year.
  • Assist Schedulers with Imbalance Trading with other Energy Suppliers when needed by determining the volume and price of gas exchanged between suppliers and make a trade.
  • Adjust and check accuracy of SAF Pricing Rates Monthly to price out customer cash-outs.
  • Provide Natural Gas Scheduling aide when needed when Schedulers are off.
  • Also requires some data entry into both our Wholesale and Accounting systems.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualified candidates for this role will have the following:

  • BS, BA in business management or a related field, or AS with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Energy industry experience a plus
  • Strong desktop computing skills, especially Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong time management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple tasks and operate under regular deadlines
