The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, is seeking a detail-oriented individual to manage and implement activities to support the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation “Bringing Immediate Kangaroo Mother Care to Life for Healthcare Professionals” project and other assigned global newborn health projects. Reporting to the Manager, Global Health Education at our Chicago suburb headquarters in Itasca, IL, this role will work remotely until March 25, 2022, with a hybrid re-entry plan. Some job duties include:

1. Work closely with AAP Global Child Health leadership and newborn global health programs staff, project technical advisors and stakeholders to develop work plans, project trackers, content curriculum for trainings, workshops, events, and other grant project deliverables, including conducting literature reviews, editing, and drafting technical content, developing survey and evaluation tools, and contributing to manuscript development.
2. Support technical activities for the Gates Foundation Immediate Kangaroo Mother Care grant.
3. Manage the regulatory and contract development, review, and execution process for assigned projects. Track grant requirements and subcontracts to ensure key deliverables, reports, and payments are met.
4. Manage any IRB submissions and renewals and provide IRB support across assigned projects and partners. Support data collection and coordination with partners as needed.
5. Synthesize project learnings and successes from assigned projects and draft project reports and dissemination materials to share AAP activities with funder and global audiences (eg, case studies, curricula, briefers) and AAP external facing websites and social media accounts.
6. Implement and oversee use of technologies to advance the AAP approach to technical assistance globally (eg Project ECHO telementoring), particularly as it relates to the Gates Foundation Immediate Kangaroo Mother Care grant.
7. Coordinate assigned steering committees, subcommittees, and project advisory groups. Plan and facilitate meetings of these groups.
8. Track internal deadlines for Gates Foundation grant activities, and assist with preparing reports for AAP senior leadership, the Board of Directors (BOD), and grant funder.
9. Support the team in other functions related to grant and program management, including independently managing assigned processes and other project components.

Qualifications include:

1. Bachelor’s degree in public health, health administration, health policy, health education, or related discipline required or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. Master’s degree in public health or other disciplines desirable.
2. At least two years related public health project coordination/management and implementation experience required, including drafting project reports and presentations and collaborating with external partners. Experience working on research projects, newborn and maternal global health initiatives or non-profit associations; and program promotion preferred.
3. Excellent organizational, written/verbal communication, and diplomacy skills required. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with MS Publisher, Adobe Suite, web management software (e.g., SharePoint), and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., WebEx, Teams and Zoom) preferred. Must be able to proactively manage multiple projects simultaneously within tight deadlines; collaborate effectively in a cross-cultural setting and with various internal and external constituents; handle a heavy workload; work both independently and as part of a team; think creatively; pay close attention to detail; and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Fluency in a foreign language desirable. Some travel (domestic and international) and evening/weekend work may be required.
