The Professional Development Program (PDP) of the University at Albany’s Rockefeller College seeks a service-minded individual who is committed to performing high-quality work to fill a Senior Computer Technology Trainer/Technical Writer / Curriculum Developer / Trainer position within PDP’s Department of Computer Training Services in Albany, NY.

Description of Duties:

Translate technical information on New York State (NYS) proprietary systems into training materials and system documentation for end users. The position will also provide instructor-led classroom, one-on-one, and virtual classroom training and training support on NYS proprietary systems. Duties include, but are not limited to: designing, writing, and producing instructional materials, technical manuals, and job aids; developing training project plans and determining appropriate training methods; delivering training and training support through various methods, including classroom training, one-on-one training, and through virtual classroom technology; researching, evaluating, testing, and implementing other training technologies; developing and/or conducting training needs assessments and evaluation instruments; assisting in the coordination of project activities; composing project plans and reports; and working closely with NYS sponsor staff as needed to implement project deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by USDOE, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization, in education, management, information science, or related field.
• A minimum of three years’ related experience providing statewide training or developing training curricula/reference manuals/software documentation.
• Experience conducting technology-related training or other training support/teaching experience.
• Strong proficiency with the MS Office suite and SharePoint.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully work under pressure and attend to details, as well as effectively work on multiple projects with competing priorities/deadlines.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated proficiency with English language grammar/usage.
• Strong knowledge of instructional design.
• Experience researching/using distance learning technologies or developing distance learning materials.
• Experience translating complex business systems and concepts for diverse audiences and audiences that may include varying degrees of technical knowledge.
• Expertise in proofreading, editing, and formatting training materials.
• Ability to learn new software applications in a timely fashion.
• Applicants must address in their applications their abilities to work with a culturally diverse population.
• Variable work hours and possible travel throughout NYS (including areas that may not be served by public transportation) are required to gather information, test systems, or deliver training.
• Ability to lift and transport computer equipment (laptops, PCs, monitors, etc.) up to 40 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by a USDOE, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization, in education, management, information science, or related field.
• Strong background in technical writing.
• Proficiency with authoring tools such as Captivate, and graphic development and editing tools such as Photoshop.
• Experience working with state or local government agencies.

SPECIAL NOTES: Employment is with The Research Foundation for The State University of New York, a private, nonprofit, educational corporation that administers sponsored program activity for the University at Albany.  Salary is expected to be in the low $60s.
