The nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare seeks a creative, innovative, and a strong strategic thinker and visionary who can lead teams to direct all logistics and provide leadership for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference & Exhibition (National Conference).
This Director will develop, foster, and execute new ideas for growth including maximizing revenue, increasing meeting attendance, the meeting experience and design, and maximizing technical and staff efficiencies, as well as provide oversight and guidance to staff and vendors.
Qualified candidates will possess:
Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, hospitality management, or other related discipline required. Professional certification (CMP, CAE, DES) strongly preferred.
At least 8 years’ experience in planning large conventions, tradeshows, and special events required, including extensive contract negation, vendor/staff supervision and budget management experience, and preferred three years in a healthcare association role.
City-wide conventions experience strongly preferred, including experience in key convention cities, venues, and hotels.
Must take initiative, demonstrate strong leadership, and possess advanced knowledge of the convention industry.
Must be able to motivate and empower others, build consensus, collaborate with various internal and external constituents, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Excellent negotiation, organizational, project management, interpersonal, diplomacy, critical thinking, and written/verbal communication skills required, as well as the ability to manage a multi-million-dollar program budget.
Strong technical acumen with proficiency in MS Office, knowledge of event technology (eg, registration systems and programs) and virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams, Zoom), and the ability to learn and implement new technologies.
Frequent travel and weekend work required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians’ availability.
