Job Summary


Under general supervision designs, tests, installs, calibrates, troubleshoots, and repairs all controls and indicators for chillers, boilers, gas and steam turbines, water treatment, and related ancillary equipment with the Central Utility Plant. This facility is a 24/7 operation and is vital to all Campus operations.


Essential Job Duties


  • Performs a variety of moderately complex assignments installing and performing maintenance and calibration on Process Control Instrumentation, Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), and related equipment.
  • Uses advanced knowledge of Facilities Systems to implement additions or modifications of control systems.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electronic, microprocessor-based, pneumatic and mechanical process control components.
  • Identifies, isolates and diagnoses failures using various types of test equipment.
  • Interprets schematic and loop drawings and coordinates needed repairs with other tradespersons to estimate time and material costs on repairs and projects.
  • Performs installation of process control components, panels, parts, and equipment, piping, conduit, and cable systems.
  • Determines measurements, develops drawings, maintains logs and writes reports for ordering equipment, parts, and supplies for installation of systems and components.
  • Calibrates instruments, tests systems, corrects any failures, and coordinates installation and repairs with other tradespersons.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications


  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Five years' experience in maintaining, calibrating, installing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical process control instruments.
  • Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's license throughout the course of employment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) and blueprints and use all necessary and related tools and instruments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds on a daily basis, bend in all directions, climb stairs and ladders, squeeze with arms and hands, operate machinery using hands and work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to work all shifts as assigned in this 24/7 operation.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Some college and 5 or more years of experience preferred.
  • Familiarization with Factory Link (SCADA), Concept (PLC programming), RSLogix (PLC programming), Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Active directory, Ethernet, Modbus, Control Net and Fiber Optics preferred.
  • Provide necessary hand tools a plus. A list of required tools is available upon request.
