The Director, Business Development will facilitate the identification, valuation, planning, and execution of internal and external business development initiatives which support the delivery of Sprague’s strategic growth and ROI objectives. With a market/customer centric point of view, the Director, Business Development will work closely and collaboratively with business unit leaders, customers, suppliers, and other external stakeholders to facilitate the identification of organic business development/growth opportunities (e.g., growth CapEx projects, new/expanded business offerings/models, optimization of existing assets, etc.), which may require a different and sometimes disruptive way of thinking about Sprague’s more traditional business models. The Director, Business Development will quantify/qualify the ROI of each business opportunity, help establish priorities, co-develop and seek approval for business plans, and successfully lead/support the execution of approved initiatives. This role will also play a critical role in identifying, valuing, and pursuing external growth opportunities, including acquisitions and/or 3rd-party joint ventures which fit within the strategic priorities and growth objectives of Sprague, as well as overseeing and delivering on the successful integration of these opportunities, encompassing all key functional areas. Finally, this role will lead or participate in other key business/corporate development activities as identified.
A high-level summary of key activities follows:
Work collaboratively with business unit leaders and other key stakeholders to identify, evaluate, plan for, and deliver on organic business development/growth initiatives.
Research potential acquisition candidates and/or 3rd-party joint venture opportunities and present findings to senior management.
Play a key role in the engagement of/relationship building with strategic 3rd parties to pursue attractive M&A and/or JV opportunities.
Coordinate Sprague’s valuation and due diligence analysis efforts for acquisitions and/or potential joint venture projects.
Lead integration efforts of acquisitions in all business segments, including developing implementation plans, monitoring acquisition efforts in all functional areas, and working on post-acquisition projects (on-site and off-site) as appropriate.
Coordinate 3rd-party appraisals as appropriate in support of successful acquisitions and credit facility requirements.
Lead/coordinate asset optimization or disposition efforts as appropriate.
Work closely with Sprague’s Treasury team, ownership, and outside lenders to ensure sufficient capital is available and deployed economically to fund growth initiatives/investments.
Lead/support the budgeting/forecasting process for the business development function and cross-company business development opportunities and plans.
Provide ongoing progress reports to senior management and the SRLP Board on the status of the growth opportunity ‘pipeline’ and active initiatives.
Manage and mentor other business development team members focused on driving continuous learning and innovation.
Complete other Business Development activities as requested by the SRLP Board or senior management.
Travel as required

Qualified candidates for this role will have the following:
Undergraduate degree with an MBA or related post-graduate degree preferred.
10+ years of business development experience; energy business/market experience a plus.
Outside-of-the-box thinker who is willing to challenge the status quo and drive new and innovative ways of delivering business value/growth.
Maintains a market/customer centric point of view as part of the business development process.
Demonstrated knowledge of how to interpret financial and operating statements, develop projections, and value the ROI of a project or company, including the use of DCF models/sensitivity analysis.
Excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Ability to assimilate and lead cross-functional teams effectively.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines.
Supporter/developer of others through active coaching and mentoring.
Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability and willingness to travel.
