Our Terminal Operator Class 2 - Electrician must have, or be working towards, a State of Maine Electrician license (Journeyman or higher) for this role. In addition, general laborer/operator experience and the ability to handle a wide range of duties at an oil tank farm/bulk handling facility is preferred. Being a member of Sprague's terminal operations will give you the opportunity to work with a variety of operations, including but not limited to, off-loading ships/barges, conducting tank to tank transfers, preventative maintenance, customer service and general upkeep of the terminal.  A variety of skills/specialization may be utilized. Joining Sprague's team will provide you with the earning potential of $60,000 in the first year, plus overtime shifts. Overtime is a requirement of this job (though not guaranteed), including nights, weekends, and holidays, during frequent high activity weeks. The nature of our business is such that we need employees to cover the job whenever necessary, sometimes unplanned. Shifts during low activity weeks are primarily days, Monday – Friday. Operators on occasion may be asked to aid other terminals when operations require more labor to support projects. Work is performed primarily outdoors in a maritime environment 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Incumbent must process the ability to work in a safe manner and maintain a constant state of alertness as the nature of work performed within our terminal operations creates conditions where a momentary lack of concentration can lead to catastrophic results. Job duties will include: 

  • State of Maine Electrician license (Journeyman or higher) is preferred
  • Electrical repairs (with suitable license as required)
  • Assist with maintenance of grounds, buildings and/or equipment
  • Participate in oil spill response drills
  • Operation of boiler (with suitable license as required)
  • Welding (with suitable training/certification as required)
  • Assist with mooring vessels
  • Assist with offloading of cargo (connecting hoses)
  • Loading railroad cars
  • Operation of bulk unloading system
  • Become part of Rigger/Signal crew
  • Supervise loading of caustic soda
  • Operation equipment (loader, forklift, man lifts)
  • Operation of hoisting cranes
  • Gauging of tanks
  • Operation of ticket booth
  • Night watchman responsibilities
  • Other duties as required

Qualified candidates for this role will have the following:

  • State of Maine Electrician license (Journeyman or higher) is preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a general laborer
  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Mechanical aptitude/ Electrical license
  • Other licenses/certifications as required for some operations
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Physical activity/strength requirements are demanding and may include:
    • Standing up to 75% of the day
    • Lifting up to 75 lbs. (i.e. steel parts, spouts)
    • Carrying up to 50 lbs. (i.e. oil, parts, tools)
    • Pulling up to 75 lbs. capacity (i.e. mooring lines)
    • Extended climbing (i.e. tank ladders/stairs/ramps)
