An image without descriptionThe Network/Systems Administration Supervisor manages and coordinates system administration and network services including network equipment, server hardware, storage devices, IT security, server operating systems, messaging systems, VOIP, and departmental and enterprise applications. Leads information technology projects and performs broad supervisory and technical duties that include overseeing Tier 2/3 support and meeting internal and external customer expectations.
The hiring range for this position is $86,399 - $123,636 annually ($41.5379 - $59.4405 hourly)

The City of Commerce City has temporarily adopted a hybrid work environment that includes remote (telework) and in-person duties. The flexibility in the assigned work schedule is subject to change based on the finalization of the Return to Work policy. This position is eligible to work remotely with a minimum of 1-2 days per week on-site (days are flexible).  This position will also be required to report on-site within 1 hour on an on-call basis.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Acts as SME and Provides Tier 2/3 support for assigned hardware and systems
  • Provides hands-on Tier 2/3 support to end-users in solving technical problems and fulfilling service requests utilizing systems management tools and techniques 
  • Serve as project manager or technical lead on department projects utilizing PMI methods
  • Serves as escalation point for system administrators on technical problem resolutions
  • Installs, diagnosis, monitors, repairs, upgrades and maintains switches, routers, servers, firewalls, wireless, security, storage, backup, VOIP and disaster recovery for the entire organization
  • Plans, supports, upgrades troubleshoots and assists with purchase of various City software and hardware services including the Microsoft Office 365 suite
  • Responsible for the ITIL process for Change Management
  • Participates in the review and evaluation of equipment and software alternatives for departments/users and recommends solutions. 
  • Provisions, installs/configures, operates, upgrades with new releases and models, maintains assigned systems hardware, software and infrastructure
  • Prepares and maintains documentation pertaining to policies, procedures and IT systems
  • Ensures that all work is end-user focused, committed to excellence, with a strong attention to detail during all phases of the project lifecycle including discovery, initiation, requirements, design, development, testing and implementation
  • Provides subject-matter expertise and primary hands-on technical hands-on administration for assigned systems
  • Oversees disaster recovery and business continuity planning for networks and systems 
  • Develops and maintains SQL triggers, stored procedures, db schema, views and scripts
  • Schedules resources and timing for network, software, and server upgrades in accordance with the Change process and schedule. 
  • Prepares work plans, project plans and other documents as appropriate
  • Assists in developing and evaluating IT strategies, policies and procedures
  • Interfaces with software and hardware vendors to procure and maintain products and services
  • Participate in the on-call after hours support team
  • Document all work products and progress in the IT Service Management System

Essential Supervisory Duties

  • Prepares timely performance evaluations that clearly define expectations 
  • Documents performance highlights and provides accurate feedback and coaching to employees
  • Mentors staff and identifies training opportunities to maximize performance 
  • Monitors training outcomes based on established training standards and requirements
  • Trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates assigned employees 
  • Plans and manages team workload effectively, ensuring transparency and visibility into the division operations.
  • Leads regular team meetings and confers one-on-one with direct reports regularly
  • Fills in as the acting IT Manager during his/her absence

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Technology Management or a related field and at least five years of progressively responsible system/network administration and support experience required. Lead or supervisory experience preferred. Experience and training in Windows Servers, Virtualization, Networking, VOIP and Wireless required. Certifications in VMWare or Microsoft Server preferred. Experience and training in ITIL with ITIL Foundations Certification preferred. CJIS certified or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.  Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend products and services to maintain and expand network and system functionality
  • Ability and knowledge to cross train on software, systems and infrastructure to provide two deep support coverage Knowledge of IT Service Management best practices including ITIL
  • Strong knowledge to ensure standards are developed and adhered per industry best practices for networking and systems administration
  • Ability to research new technologies and provide recommendations on usage in the organization
  • Strong knowledge of the principles and practices of project management – PMI preferred
  • Strong knowledge of system and network administration including providing Tier 2/3 support
  • Strong knowledge of providing end-user technical training and producing technical documentation
  • Ability to motivate, supervise, train and lead employees
  • Strong knowledge of current Microsoft Server operating systems and server hardware
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise server virtualization – VMWare preferred
  • Strong Knowledge of enterprise storage and backup technology – Veeam preferred
  • Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
  • Strong Knowledge of Office365 system administration
  • Strong Knowledge of Cisco switch, routing, firewalls, wireless, access/identity and telephony
  • Strong Knowledge of IT Security
  • Strong knowledge of DellEMC VXRail
  • Strong knowledge of Enterprise and Department software solutions
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server
  • Knowledge of Microsoft System Center and WSUS
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain technical terminology to non-technical end users.
  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles and methods utilized within the Information Technology Department
