The Aviation Warfare Program Analyst provides support to the Combat Survivability Competency at NAVAIR Patuxent River.  The candidate must be able to work closely with systems and survivability engineers to provide a military aviator's perspective of survivability systems and capabilities and their impact to operational requirements.  The successful candidate must be familiar with the tactical employment of fixed wing and/or- rotary wing aircraft and have an understanding of threat and friendly system kill-chains.  The candidate will be able to quickly understand complex problem sets related to alternative tactics and technologies and be able to form supportable and defensible recommendations for survivability enhancements. 

The candidate will also be expected to quickly grow into the role of leading survivability assessments, assisting in the development of requirements, and occasionally draft or support survivability proposals.  The ability to prepare concise and targeted briefing content and deliver "to the point" presentations to decision makers is a must.

The Aviation Warfare Program Analyst provides insight for the Systems Engineering of Naval Aviation platforms, systems and sub- system from the users (aviator) perspective.  


  • CONOPS/CONEMPS development
  • Actively participate in Aircraft Survivability Equipment (ASE) and systems assessments
  • Research threat and friendly systems and their interactions
  • Work closely with engineering and mission level tool set operators to ensure the proper representation of tactical capabilities and requirements
  • Draft proposals related to enhanced survivability capabilities
  • Create briefing material and present to decision makers


  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 12 years experience in operational and/or acquisition billets
  • 750 actual flight hours in tactical aircraft
  • Must have Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance

Specific experience in at least four (4) of the following areas:

  • Carrier qualification
  • Combat experience
  • Flight experience in state-of-the-art glass cockpit
  • Flight experience in high- G-onset rate-capable aircraft
  • Operational flight time utilizing night vision devices
  • Night Attack Systems; Helmet mounted displays
  • Operational advisory/design review participation (OAG, NARG, ASAP, SEAL Team, PDR/CDR Team, TACAIR Night  Strike Working Group)
  • Friendly and threat capability analysis and projection 
  • Operational mission planning/tactics development. 
  • Test and Evaluation project execution
  • Tactics Development and Evaluation (TAC D&E) 
  • Automated Mission Planning Systems (i.e., TAMPS, JUMPS)
  • Weapons and Tactics Instructor School/Top Gun Graduate
  • Analytic experience, especially with friendly and threat capability analysis
  • CONOPS/CONEMPS Development and operational planning
  • Working knowledge of Aircraft Survivability Equipment and systems
  • Knowledge of the Defense Acquisition System
