Job Description:


Reporting to the Director of IT Operations, the Senior Network & Systems Analyst is responsible for the complete lifecycle management of the Research Foundation's (RF) network, server, storage, and data center infrastructure. The incumbent in this role will work both with internal and third-party ITS and managed services staff to ensure the reliable and secure delivery of application services to SUNY campuses statewide.

Critical thinking skills and the ability to successfully work independently in a fast-paced corporate environment are critical success factors for the incumbent in this role.



• Develop strategic roadmaps to proactively ensure the RF's application delivery infrastructure will meet ongoing and future business needs and objectives.
• Develop strategies to ensure the RF's disaster recovery and business continuity programs are in alignment with best practices.
• Develop strategies to ensure the proper enterprise backup, retention, and recovery of critical data.
• Provide expert analysis and recommendations in the procurement of hardware, software, and services as part of the annual budget planning process.
• Working with Compliance Security Staff, provide expert analysis and recommendations to ensure the integrity and security of the RF's infrastructure platforms.

Design & Implementation

• Design and implement infrastructure systems and services with an emphasis on security, reliability, simplicity, and scalability.
• Provide project leadership in the development and execution of enterprise projects, ensuring delivery of projects on time, and within budget.
• Develop and utilize standardized build documents and checklists for all application infrastructure build activities.


• Ensure availability of the RF's application delivery infrastructure per prescribed service level agreements (SLA's)
• Proactively monitor infrastructure components to optimize performance and resource availability.
• Provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly metrics and key performance indicators (KPI's) for the RF's application delivery infrastructure.
• Maintain and ensure the operation of the RF's enterprise backup and recovery system. Maintain records of backup operations for audit and review.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and restore infrastructure services and systems.


• Patch and maintain all components of the RF's application delivery infrastructure.
• Ensure critical security updates are promptly applied to infrastructure components.
• Apply, renew, and update security certificates for the RF application delivery infrastructure.
• In consultation with Compliance Security Staff, implement and maintain security policies and permissions on infrastructure systems and services.

Continuous Improvement

• Evaluate existing IT processes, procedures, and protocols and make recommendations for improvements in efficiency, security, availability, and administrative overhead.



• Must be able to respond quickly and with sound judgment, to assess and restore infrastructure services issues in a timely manner.
• Must demonstrate the ability to organize and plan tasks.
• Must be able to work independently to ensure the on-time delivery of assignments.
• Must be able to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
• Must be available for on-call or after-hours support, as needed.


• Bachelor's degree and 5 to 7 years experience with complex network, system, and storage environments.
• Expertise in the maintenance and support of Linux systems is required.
• Expertise in the maintenance and support of Storage Appliances is required.
• Expertise in the maintenance and support of Network firewalls, switches, and load balancers is required.
• Expertise in cloud systems (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Amazon Web Services) is required.
• Expertise in Windows Servers is preferred.
• Expertise in Office 365, including Azure is preferred.
