Job Description

This is an in-person position based in West Lafayette, Indiana.

We also ask that you provide three writing samples as part of the application.

Functions
  • As a part of the marketing and communications leadership team, this position designs and executes strategic marketing plans to further the priorities of the foundation and the university.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Purdue for Life Foundation marketing and communications team, Office of Industry Partnerships (OIP), Purdue Global, and Purdue Online. Coordinate, as needed, with Purdue University Marketing and Communications and Kaplan North America to ensure adherence to brand guidelines and messaging.
  • Conduct market research and analysis, identify new marketing strategies, establish and implement short- and long-term marketing goals, and track and evaluate marketing effectiveness.
  • In partnership with other members of the marketing and communications team, oversee development and lead the execution of all OIP-related communications collateral, such as proposal development, news releases, tradeshow and conference needs, feature stories, event materials, and more, including print, web, email, and social content.
  • Initiate and implement multichannel marketing, including SEO, PPC, and other digital marketing.
  • Oversee development of content that engages alumni, donors, fans, and corporate and foundation partners with the foundation and the university. Work may take the form of fundraising and stewardship materials, news releases, feature stories, brochures, newsletters, magazines, video scripts, social media posts, emails, correspondence, website copy, and invitations, speeches, and other materials supporting live events.
  • Support the marketing and communications team and other colleagues as copy editor, following the Purdue for Life Foundation’s style guide and Purdue University’s editorial and visual branding guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively and collegially with Purdue for Life staff (leadership, fundraisers, donor and alumni relations staff, OIP staff, special events staff) and university colleagues to complete projects on time and with high quality.
  • As needed, must be available to work evenings and weekends and be available to travel.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and implementation of campaign planning.
  • Represent the foundation at various activities and provide consultation and collaboration on projects.
  • As needed, serve as assigning manager for freelance talent.
  • As needed, conduct photo research and assist with photo and video shoots.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Excellent proofreading and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision, prioritize assignments to meet deadlines, and produce high-quality work with attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative and solve problems while being flexible.
  • Ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, diplomacy, persuasive ability, and the ability to inspire confidence and cooperation to drive positive results within and across the organization’s boundaries.
  • Strong understanding of marketing material design.
  • General understanding of the need to cultivate and steward donors at any giving level.
  • Personal computer and related software skills.
  • Knowledge of Purdue University and its fundraising history is a plus, but not required.
  • Regular and reliable in-person attendance is a requirement of this position.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of five years of marketing and communications experience.
  • Editorial and marketing experience across various communication channels (print, web, email, social media).
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing marketing strategies that are designed to promote and generate philanthropic support.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or higher education setting preferred.
