Job Description

CHEST is currently seeking a Program Specialist, Simulation and Immersive Learning to join our team! CHEST is located in Glenview, IL.

 

Primary Purpose

Provide creative and technical support in the operation of immersive learning, simulation technology, and related clinical education-based design. Produce and
deliver education in multiple modalities and delivery methods, including live, in-person, virtual, on-demand, on-demand, and hybrid formats. Develop scenarios and apply essential techniques for conducting simulation education, capturing digital assets, developing bite-sized learning, building longitudinal learning, and learning pathways. Maintain and update simulation equipment, including troubleshooting, and arranging repairs as needed. Manage consumables through inventory and ordering of supplies for in-house and off-site use. Identify processes that can be modified or streamlined to support the clinical faculty and educational offerings. Support data collection and reporting.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

2. Organize, support, and execute simulation educational activities, webinars, and podcasts.
3. Collaborate with staff and faculty in the design, development, measurement of learning outcomes, project management and, execution of educational program
activities including:

  • Utilizing online faculty management system to invite faculty and provide information to enable full participation.
  • Tracking collection of agreement forms and conflict of interest information.
  • Preparing content and learning materials, including evaluation tools, checklists, presentations, cases, development of digital assets, and other exercises that enable the evaluation of learners
  • Providing course information and materials for the content management system for development and timely release to learners.
  • Assisting faculty with travel and communicating itineraries.
  • Preparing honoraria requests for faculty and distributing the payments.
  • Sending communications for pre-and post-course work/surveys through the Learning Management System (LMS) and conducting review and follow-up with those who have outstanding work.

4. Work with staff and faculty for simulation activities including:

  • Identifying the equipment, modalities for delivery, timelines, and support needed for conducting the activities.
  • Developing strategies to enhance programs and services that engage and motivate the learners in their experience, to include modifying or altering simulation equipment as needed to meet course objectives.
  • Serving as the point of contact for assigned programs to receive, set up, and return in-kind equipment.
  • Conducting the setup and clean-up of rooms used for training sessions, cadaver programs, and activities.
  • Programming and operating simulation equipment for sessions. Performing necessary maintenance and testing of equipment prior to the start of all courses. Participating in role-playing as needed for simulated cases.
  • Ensuring accurate maintenance of all education and training records (simulator use, equipment use, instructor and student hours, course materials, and evaluations) to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Maintaining appropriate levels of consumable supplies and other disposable and non-disposable items, including the gases necessary for the operation of simulation programs; reordering as necessary.
  • Providing training for faculty and staff in the utilization of simulator equipment, scenario development and programming, and updates related to simulation education.
  • Helping to recruit, train, and supervise technical staff and other ISTC per-diem employees to assure effective maintenance and repair of simulator and clinical equipment.

5. Develop and maintain professional working relationships with other departments and staff. Ensure that all work assignments meet deadlines and standards of
quality.
6. Work with the team to maintain the ISTC as a clean, safe, and operational facility and optimal learning environment both at CHEST headquarters as well
as off-site training locations.
7. Assist in monitoring and maintaining course budgets for assigned program areas, which includes reviewing, coding, and submitting relevant vendor invoices
and volunteer reimbursements for approval.
8. Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practices for the simulation programs in order to maintain accreditation through
Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and Maintenance of Certification (MOC)
through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
9. Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies and clinical applications, including basic theory, design, and implementation.
10. Assist staff and faculty with the necessary logistical and administrative support for the development of business reports and manuscripts for publication.
Coordinate clinical research data collection, management, and analysis.
11. Assist in the coordination and execution of ISTC activities including training sessions, scenario programming, meetings, routine maintenance, and tours;
lead tours as necessary.

Other Functions/Responsibilities
1. Provide support to members, committees, faculty, and learners, emphasizing a customer-service, learner-centric approach to all interactions and promoting a
responsive, positive environment.
2. Maintain working knowledge of all systems and workflows required to execute activities (eg, AMS, LMS, submission, and review systems).
3. Complete other tasks and projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelors Degree, preferably in education or healthcare-related field, or equivalent practical experience.
2. Computer proficiency in PC and Mac-based software applications including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
3. Moderate heavy lifting frequently to place and pack items, while becoming familiar with the use of specialized medical equipment.
4. Ability to often work weekends and evenings to accommodate volunteer and learner schedules.
5. Ability to accommodate occasional domestic or international travel.
