Birmingham, AL office for a full-time
Payroll Administrator. The Payroll Administrator will perform payroll related-functions, including payroll processing of the biweekly, semimonthly, monthly and off-cycle payrolls and draws; payroll tax compliance; automated timekeeping systems; and payroll reporting in a multisite, multistate, high-volume environment. KEY CONTRIBUTIONS- Timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, draws, bonuses, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Process employee timesheets to pull hours worked, overtime, and time off into the payroll system.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws, and best practices.
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports; W-2’s; tax filings; and other required reportings such as workers compensation audits and multi-state reporting.
- Respond to and resolve inquiries about paychecks or payroll reporting; ensuring payroll issues are escalated and resolved promptly.
- Reconcile payroll deposits, tax withholdings, wage garnishments, and voluntary deductions and other similar audit functions.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Respond to requests for information from governmental agencies and tax authorities.
THE ESSENTIALS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five or more years of progressive payroll experience; related experience in a law firm or professional services organization beneficial.
- Highly organized, outstanding analytical skills, detail-orientated, precise, and proactive with a desire to take ownership.
- Balance competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, exercising patience and professionalism during stressful situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A strong client-service orientation, and the ability to be self-directed, resilient, and proactive.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; prior experience using HRIS (such as Workday, ADP, UKG) for payroll processing preferred.
- A satisfactory credit history is required.
