ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN FINANCE BOARD
The New York City Campaign Finance Board oversees New York City’s small donor democracy program and educates and engages voters via NYC Votes. The CFB has enjoyed a tremendous arc of progress over its 30-year history, and our updated flagship small donor democracy program is a centerpiece of this progress.
We eliminate barriers to participation by providing access to the resources New Yorkers need to vote or run for office and amplify the voices of small donors with New York City’s small donor democracy program.
You would be working with a staff and leadership that is mission driven and committed to continuous improvement for the staff and the public.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Marketing and Digital Communications unit sits within the Public Affairs division. The Public Affairs division promotes the agency’s role in equipping all candidates and voters to open democracy in New York City. We engage New Yorkers, inform them about elections, and boost their civic participation in the democratic process. The person in this role will be a member of the Public Affairs leadership team and have a key role in implementing our strategic goals to make elections information accessible and relevant; to increase engagement with underrepresented communities (young voters under 30, immigrants and those with limited English proficiency, people with disabilities, and justice-involved individuals, including those who were formerly incarcerated); and to cultivate a team that reflects our core values of purpose, curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.
The Marketing and Digital Communications unit is responsible for the NYC Votes brand and our direct-to-voter communications about elections and campaign finance, including our websites, mass email and text communications, social media, citywide advertising campaigns, and key Voter Guide content that we distribute to over 5 million registered voters.
THE ROLE
The Director will spearhead communications under NYC Votes and create strategies to promote the Campaign Finance Board and the public matching funds program. This person will analyze how our owned and paid assets are performing while maintaining a broader view of voting, contribution, and participation patterns and how we could drive more engagement with the democratic process as an agency. This work requires finding a balance between creating communications that can serve as a resource for everyone, while also specializing in ways to reach underrepresented communities.
The Director will also supervise the Content Strategy Manager who leads the Content team (staffed by our Social Media Manager, Multimedia Content Creator, and Content Writer), and Art Director who leads the Design team (staffed by our Graphic Designer and Senior Graphic Designer.)
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a creative approach to problem solving, empathy and emotional intelligence to engage staff and underrepresented communities, a collaborative working style with both internal colleagues and external stakeholders, and an analytic and data-driven focus on continuous improvement. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The Campaign Finance Board is a nonpartisan, independent city agency that empowers New Yorkers to make a greater impact on their elections.
The New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB) administers one of the strongest, most effective campaign finance systems in the country. NYC’s matching funds program amplifies the voice of average New Yorkers in city elections by matching their small contributions with public funds. By increasing the value of small-dollar contributions, the program reduces the possibility and perception of corruption from large contributions and unlimited campaign spending, and encourages citizens from all walks of life to run for office. Through its rigorous oversight and enforcement efforts, the CFB holds candidates accountable for using public funds responsibly.
The CFB publishes detailed public information about money raised and spent in city elections by candidates and independent spenders, bringing greater transparency to the democratic process. Its NYC Votes campaign engages and educates voters through community outreach, the Voter Guide, and Debate Program, empowering New Yorkers to make informed choices at the polls. In addition, the CFB seeks to improve the voter experience by advocating for legislative changes to the registration and voting process.
