The position:
AMEWAS, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and talented Design Specialist/ Technical Editor to support Advanced Aircraft Research, Development, Test & Evaluation. This position is classified as AMEWAS labor category Technical Writer.

A typical day as a Design Specialist/ Technical Editor may include:

  • Provide Direct support to the DAiTA communications team.
  • Research, outline, write, and edit content, working closely with various departments to understand project requirements.
  • Gather information from subject-matter experts and develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation.
  • Work with development and support leads to identify documentation repositories, revise and edit, and determine best solutions for data compilation and centralized storage.
  • Research, create, and maintain information architecture templates that adhere to organizational and legal standards and allow for easy data migration.
  • Develop content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with consistent voice across all documentation.
  • Develop comprehensive documentation that meets organizational standards.
  • Gain deep understanding of products and services, and translate complex information into simple, polished, engaging content.
  • Write user-friendly content that meets the needs of target audience, turning insights into language for user success.
  • Develop and maintain detailed database of reference materials, including research, usability tests, and design specifications.
  • Evaluate current content and develop innovative methods for improvement.


Must-haves:

  • HS diploma or equivalent with 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of and experience with basic editing and writing practices
  • Experience editing speeches, reports, manuals, presentations, etc.
  • Experience filling out detailed forms and adhering to a specified format (content and design)
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze complex information
  • A natural desire to help people understand complex concepts with a proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex subject matter
  • Desire to learn basic graphic design skills/principles/etc.
  • Experience with the following tools: Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint
  • Familiar with the following tools: Microsoft Visio, Adobe Acrobat DC, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance


Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Customer Service experience
  • Interviewing experience
  • Experience organizing and storing/filing large amounts of documentation (physical and/or digital)
  • Ability to problem solve under stress
  • Experience in writing documentation and procedure manuals for various audiences
  • Basic understanding and/or familiarization with software development, computer science, engineering, or related fields
  • Experience working with engineers to improve user experience (ex: design, UI), refine content, and create visuals and diagrams for technical support content

Physical environment and working conditions:
The physical environment requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday.  Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site.  In some occasions, the employee may be required to report to offices or buildings near the work site.
